Welcome to Fairmount, a place that has been enjoyed for generations.
From it opening in February of 1890, Fairmount Cemetery has served families of the west with distinction and care. The “Ivy Chapel” and “Fairmount Gate House” and our green house opened the same year. The green house staff grew flowers for the grounds and gravesites. Our master gardener for over 50 years, Parker Watson, led his crew in maintaining Fairmount's numerous flower beds.
Our florist shop opened in the mid 1980's. Due to the increasing expense of energy, the green house was torn down in the mid 1990's. A new flower shop was constructed near our Quebec street entrance. Today our floral department headed by Elaine Hlousek continues our legacy of providing quality service and floral arrangements of distinction. She and her staff provide flowers for funerals, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and other special occasions. They also provide our families with winter wreaths, silk flowers and grave blankets during the winter months.
Denver's first crematory, opened in 1903, also owned by Fairmount was located on the grounds of Riverside Cemetery. In 1941 it was moved to its current location adjacent to the Chapel in the Pines on the grounds of Fairmount.
Construction on the “The Fairmount Mausoleum”, started during the great depression in 1929. Many of Denver's unemployed were put to work on its construction. One of the largest in the nation, it is constructed of concrete marble and reinforced steel. The building has a chapel, its own flower shop, incredible private rooms and numerous crypts. The building also contains one of the largest collections of stained glass in the city.
Fairmount also has one of the cities unique outdoor mausoleums, the memorial terrace complete with casket and cremation spaces is located in our “Wind Chimes” area near the Highline Canal.
In our desire to continue providing excellent care and service to our families, Fairmount opened its own Mortuary in 1965. Located within the grounds of the cemetery our mortuary provides compassionate service to over 700 families a year.
Fairmount added its own on site monument shop in the early 1990's. In 1992 a new state of the arch monument facility was completed as part of the new construction of our maintenance facility.
Many families choose Fairmount to be their resting place due to its picturesque landscape, tradition filled history and ease of access to the Denver metro area.
This oasis in the city boasts over 3800 trees on 280 acres. It is home to abundant wildlife including eagles, fox, deer, owls, coyotes and raccoon. Every spring the grounds become a vibrant preserve filled with flowering cherry blossoms, rustling Aspen leaves and the next generation of animals to call this place home.
Since our inception in 1890, Fairmount has been home to many multi-generational family plots. Many of these families are intertwined in the fabric of Denver’s history.
Many of the families we serve tell us they have made the choice to do business with us because their ancestors are here and they have happy memories of playing in our park-like grounds while visiting during Memorial Day or on the anniversary of a loved one’s passing.
The modern world moves us far away from each other. Having generations interred here means loved ones will return over and over again to visit and honor the entire family.
As a privately owned, financially stable organization our business practices are centered upon high standards; though you will find our prices to be quite competitive.
In a day when more and more funeral homes and cemeteries are owned and operated by multinational corporations (and the bottom line is often the primary mission) you’ll find our attention, pride and care to be extraordinary.
Fairmount Cemetery is a company that is financially secure. This means you can expect great care to be taken of the pristine grounds and facilities for years to come. |
