Dealing with a death is hard for everyone; hopefully these tips will allow you to better support someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one.
Listen: don’t feel like you have to talk or relate. Those who are grieving often feel it is a very individual pain — nod, show by your body language that you are being understanding.
Physically Be There: this provides tremendous support, taking care of their physical needs whether its cooking, cleaning or providing a shoulder to cry on.
Knowing what to say: express that you are sorry, allow them to share personal stories only if they want to, use the deceased person's name, ask them how you can help them. |
